Man dies after high-rise flat fire in Kidderminster
A man in his 80s died after a fire at a high-rise block of flats in Kidderminster.
His body was found by firefighters at Coniston House, Hurcott Road, on Friday afternoon.
Three people including a child were treated for smoke inhalation.
The blaze, which started on the seventh floor, is not being treated as suspicious. Firefighters were called at 4.20pm.
A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire Service said: "One man was rescued from his flat.
"Sadly, the man believed to be in his 80s, was subsequently found to be deceased and next of kin have been notified. His death is not being treated as suspicious."
"The fire was contained to a single flat and was extinguished quickly using hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.
"The cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
West Mercia Police spokeswoman, Holly Claydon-Bevan, added: "His death is not being treated as suspicious and the cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, Murray MacGregor, said four patients were found as crews arrived with a man in cardiac arrest.
"With support from the fire service we were able to access the man and begin to administer advanced life support, but unfortunately it was not possible to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene," he added.
"The other three patients were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution."
