Thieves target Kidderminster church and food bank stealing cash and causing hundreds of pounds of damage
A church and food bank suffered hundreds of pounds worth of damage after being targeted by thieves twice in the space of four hours.
Officials from Baxter Church, in Kidderminster, which is home to Kidderminster Food Bank, said they were saddened by the break-in.
The thieves are reported to have stolen £90 cash and a laptop – but church-goers have pledged they will 'not be broken'.
Elder of the church and treasurer of Kidderminster Food Bank Denise Carson said: "It is so sad that people have responded so well in giving us donations and then we have got people who come and just take it.
"We will not be beaten, we will clear up and sort things out – we have got five or six of us here already helping."
She added: "About £90 was taken out of the food bank – It is not exactly the best way to start off the new year."
CCTV at the premises is now being checked following damage to church doors and inside the main building.
It is thought the thieves first arrived at the church in Bull Ring after 10.10pm on Tuesday evening but they later returned at around 1am.
She added: "We are here as the church and as the food bank and we are around to help people that are in need."
Hundreds of pounds worth of damage was left, say church members, with door locks vandalised.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said the offenders had 'made an untidy search' before making off.
They added that inquires are still on-going.
Police said anyone with information can contact them on 101, quoting 176s of 3 January 2018.
