Outrage as caravan full of waste dumped in Wednesfield street
Residents are up in arms after a battered caravan was dumped on a residential street.
The old Lunar model vehicle, which is in a poor state with part of the roof falling off, was dumped near to houses on Birchfields Road in Wednesfield earlier this week.
Neighbours said the vehicle is full of rubbish and concrete and has sat on the street since Monday October 22.
Wolverhampton Council was removing the caravan yesterday after getting workers to remove all the waste and concrete out of it before having it towed away.
But residents are furious that the caravan was dumped in the first place, with one angry neighbour exclaiming: “People think they can get away with it.”
The resident, who does not wish to be named, added: “It’s battered and filled with rubbish, it’s a nice road so it’s really bizarre.
“There was trouble with people dumping things along this road before, people think they can get away with it.
“It arrived between 12.30pm and 2.30pm - in broad daylight.
“It was even parked halfway across another man’s drive at first but he managed to push it down the road slightly.
“Hopefully seeing pictures of this will jog somebody’s memory and they might know who’s caravan it is and who dumped it and hopefully they will come forward and report them.
“The council have been cleaning it up but it’s irritating that taxpayer’s money is being spent on cleaning this up.”
Neighbours were keen to move the vehicle on and the police and Wolverhampton Council were informed at the time of its abandonment.
Ward Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal described the dumping as ‘absolutely disgraceful’.
He said: “A real bugbear of mine is flytipping and graffiti, it personally offends me and I don’t understand why people think they can get away with it. I urge people, that if they see this kind of thing, to report it straight away. It’s unacceptable.
“With the cuts councils’ are facing this is the last thing we should be dealing with and for someone to fill it up with concrete and dump it on a residential street without a thought for the residents or the impact it will have, it’s absolutely disgraceful.”
A Wolverhampton Council spokeswoman said: “The caravan is full of waste, including large amounts of concrete.
“We currently have council employees on site clearing the waste from inside of the caravan before it is towed away for disposal.”
