Air ambulance called as three injured in Wednesfield crash

Three people have been injured in a two-car smash which left one person trapped in Wednesfield.

The crash involved a blue BMW and a black Chevrolet and happened at around 3pm today on Waddens Brook Lane in Wednesfield.

A 23-year-old female driver was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured collarbone, while a woman in her sixties was treated for neck and back pain at the scene.

A further person is also understood to have been injured.

West Midlands Ambulance Service received four 999 calls about the crash and sent two ambulances and a paramedic support officer. A Midlands Air Ambulance also attended from Cosford.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance service said: "We had calls reporting that two people were free from the cars and one person was trapped after a metal bar pierced one of the cars."

The helicopter ambulance left the scene before 4pm and the road was back open by 5pm.

West Midlands Fire Service were called at 3.09pm and sent two appliances from Fallings Park station. A total of eight firefighters attended the scene and left at 3.34pm after making the road safe.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving two cars in collision with road furniture."
