Fire crews called to empty property blaze in Wolverhampton

Firefighters and police were called to a blaze in an empty property.

The house on Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton, had smoke coming from it, but the fire was out by the time crews arrived.

Wolverhampton Fire tweeted saying: "White watch has just returned from reports of a house fire with people trapped along Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton with Tettenhall Fire Station and West Midlands Police Force Response.

"Thankfully no persons trapped but there was a fire in the first floor bedroom. Fire out, everyone safe."

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The call came in at 1.44pm to Tettenhall Road. The initial report was smoke coming out of a house that had been converted into flats.

"We sent two fire engines and a fire brigade response vehicle, 13 firefighters.

"This was a small fire which was out on arrival in a front bedroom on the first floor.

"The property was void.

"One hose reel jet was used. Police and ambulance have been in attendance. Police will be arranging boarding up the property."

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

West Midlands Police has been asked to comment.
