More than 200 people packed into Tettenhall College last week for The Garden Club Tettenhall and District Horticultural Society annual show.

The event started on Friday morning and carried on until late Saturday afternoon.

The overall winner was Dennis Turner, whose assortment of different vegetables saw him pip Alan Kimber to the title.

Wenonah Davies, the chairwoman of the Garden Club, said: "It was absolutely brilliant. We had an excellent turnout and we raised more than £500. Some of that money will go to the Wildside Activity Centre on Hordern Road, with people from the centre in attendance at the show.

"We had more people come than usual and everybody had a wonderful time."

The annual show boasts a variety of different vegetable sections as well as awards for arranging and cookery.

On top of this there is also a children's section, where members of the Garden Club visit schools around Tettenhall and rate them on the number of weeds, the children's enthusiasm, what the school is growing and how all the greenery is lad out. At the end the school is given a certificate and a voucher to spend on green products.

The King's Church Of England School, on Regis Road, won a recycling award this year, which is a new addition to the garden show.

The show at Tettenhall College was opened by the Garden Club's president, Darren Rudge. It started at 2pm last Friday and finished around 6pm on the Saturday.

"It is a very long two days," Ms Davies said.
