Work is under way to prepare Wolverhampton’s pools for the summer season – and they are now due to open in time for the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of this month.

The linings of both Tettenhall Pool and East Park Pool have been cleaned and the pumping mechanisms tested, with cracks formed over the winter months also sealed.

Severn Trent Water carries out the time-consuming task of filling each pool.

Tettenhall Pool holds 153,978 gallons of water, or 1,231,842 pints, and because of its size it takes nearly four days to fill, while East Park Pool holds 32,995 gallons - the equivalent of 263,960 pints.

Finally, the purity of the water needs to be laboratory tested before the pools can be officially opened to the public.

The pools are expected to open in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend, May 27 to 29, and will remain available throughout the summer.

Last year, Tettenhall Pool had to close following an algae and fly larvae break-out – leaving it unsafe for people to use.
