The Claregate was at risk of being turned into a care home, but was saved at the eleventh hour when Marston's pulled out of a sale deal back in 2015.

Now the pub on the Codsall Road has undergone a major revamp and is set to reopen its doors to customers with a fresh new look.

Nearly three months have passed since last orders were called at the pub, which was built in 1935 and served as Wolves' legend Billy Wright's local when it was known as The Fieldhouse in the 1950s

Natalie Jackson, pub manager, said: “The pub is looking amazing, it is has completely changed the Claregate and I am so excited for us to start the new chapter here at the pub.”

When the revamp was unveiled, pub chiefs said the move would create up to 30 jobs both front of house and in the kitchen - from head chef right through to bar and waiting staff.

A big red chair outside the pub denotes it as a part of the 'Generous George' chain - the second in the city after The Spread Eagle in Wednesfield.

It is also one of the first Marston’s pubs to offer food on the menu from its very own smokehouse.

The pub officially reopens on Monday.
