Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in Wolverhampton.

The woman was found near Dirtyfoot Lane, Lower Penn, at around 1.30pm on Saturday and her death is currently being treated as unexplained.

Her identity has not been officially released but her family are aware and have asked for privacy.

Dirtyfoot Lane was cordoned off for more than 24 hours as police started their investigation, with forensic teams at the scene on Sunday.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "Staffordshire Police was called to a report of a woman’s body on Dirtyfoot Lane, Wolverhampton, at around 1.30pm on Saturday 2 November.

"Detectives, with the assistance of colleagues at West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, are currently in the process of establishing the circumstances of the death.

"At this time the death is being treated as unexplained."

Police, paramedics, firefighters and an air ambulance were all in Lower Penn on Saturday afternoon.

Single-track Dirtyfoot Lane is a cul-de-sac which leads to Westcroft Farm and was closed from its only access point at Springhill Lane.
