Wolverhampton shopping precinct to be given new lease of life after barrage of complaints
A housing association has vowed to improve the look of a shopping precinct following complaints.
Residents living near The Haymarket in Pendeford, Wolverhampton, says the area needs a clean-up.
They complain of rubbish left on the precinct, bird droppings and general state of disrepair.
In response, Wolverhampton Homes, which is responsible for part of the area, has said it is taking action.
Assistant director Darren Baggs said: “We are working closely with shopkeepers at The Haymarket to get the area tidied up.
"The shopkeepers are responsible for maintaining the shop frontages and we will continue to address this with local businesses."
He said the areas outside the shops were not currently part of a scheduled maintenance programme, but added this was being addressed alongside the Pendeford Tenants Management Organisaton.
He added: "We are responsible for emptying the bins and do this regularly.
"Steps are already being taken to replace the small bin with a larger one that is more fit for purpose.
"In the meantime, we encourage residents to contact us if any of the bins become full so that we can arrange another visit to empty them.”
But Bernard Curtis, who lives in Cornfield, said: "That is a load of nonsense.
"I contacted them a month ago and nothing was done until I got MP Emma Reynolds involved.
"And why should people have to contact them to let them know, they should be checking the bins regularly themselves.
"I want to see more money spent on the area to improve it."
