Lee MacDivitt, 36, "terrorised" shopkeepers in Bilston returning to plunder their produce on a daily basis.

The drug addict targeted One Stop, Melvyn Place, several times a day in October and November, last year. He would steal chocolate, fizzy drinks, coffee, meat and other products.

MacDivitt, of Prince Charles Road, Wolverhampton, was easily recognised for his crimes because he was the only thief to use a wooden plank to wedge a shop's door open. He also pleaded guilty to stealing money from homes of strangers and family members.

MacDivitt was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday, February 11) after pleading guilty to several counts of shoplifting, assaulting an emergency worker, breaking bail conditions and missing drug rehabilitation appointments.

Prosecuting Hawaz Ahmed said "The defendant was the only thief to use a wooden plank to wedge a door open and caused immense problems in his local community.

"He would enter One Stop a number of times on a day, at 6.30am he took £100 chocolate, he went back on the same day, wedged the door open and filled carrier bags of coffee and chocolates.
