Black Country pub's new pergola gets the go-ahead from planners
A popular Black Country pub and restaurant has been given the go-ahead to build a pergola.
The Horse & Jockey in Robert Wynd at Woodcross, near Coseley, has been granted permission for the timber structure at the rear of the pub, which is well-known within real-ale circles.
The single-storey structure will cover about 600 sq ft of floorspace, and will be about 10ft high at its eaves. New paving slabs will also be laid as part of the scheme.
"The structure is of a simple but elegant ‘lean-to’ form, and is in-keeping with the existing site," said applicant Punch Pubs.
"The proposed pergola is to be constructed from high-quality, responsibly sourced timber from well-managed forests."
Andrew Johnson, senior planning officer at Wolverhampton Council, approved the plans, saying they were unlikely to have a significant impact on neighbours.
"Historically there appear to have been similar structures to the one proposed here," he said.
"The proposals are unlikely to materially affect the existing relationship with neighbouring properties.
"The proposals are mostly screened from the public realm. Notwithstanding this, the structure appears in scale and character with this setting. There would be no adverse impact on visual amenity. Highway safety would not be significantly affected."
