Mourners bid farewell to Bilston Town saviour Graham Hodson
Mourners have paid an emotional farewell to legendary Black Country football figure Graham Hodson who died last month.
A funeral service was held at St. Leonard’s Church in Bilston.
He died, aged 59, following a short battle with cancer.
Mr Hodson famously saved 120-year-old Bilston Town FC from going bust in 2009 when bailiffs came calling for the thousands of pounds the club owed.
Serving as chairman, he alongside vice-chairman Denise Frankham and secretary Paul Lloyd, set up their own company to get the finances back on the right track.
But it is Mr Hodson who is most attributed with the turn-around, which was an even more impressive feat given that he also worked 60 hours a week as a security guard at Assa Abbloy in Willenhall.
The service was on Monday.
He had been sought out by club chiefs after making a name for himself when he set up the Bilston Partnership Youth Football League in 1998.
Mr Hodson is survived by his wife Theresa and their two sons Lee and Steven.
