Mixture of sadness and shock for residents after Wolverhampton hit-and-run crash
Residents on a busy Wolverhampton road have spoken of shock and sadness at the news of a hit-and-run crash on their doorstep.
A 62-year-old man was left with serious injuries after the incident on Monday evening on Compton Road in Wolverhampton, an incident which police believe was deliberate.
The road around where the incident took place was still closed off between Clark Road and Marchant Road at 1pm the next day, with officers from West Midlands Police making door-to-door checks for CCTV footage and anything residents might have seen.
Among those residents staying at home on a Tuesday afternoon, there was a feeling of sadness at news of someone being hit by a car so near their homes, with one resident saying he wasn't surprised due to the way people drove down the road, which is near Wolverhampton Grammar School.
The first resident, who didn't want to be named, said he had found the road to be dangerous at times and thought an accident was inevitable.
He said: "From a resident's point of view, we've got a sign outside on the road which says 30 miles per hour and there is a school, but the traffic is coming down here so quickly and it's not being policed properly.
"It's also bad at around 3pm and 4pm with traffic and you'll hear people driving quickly up and down the road, so I am not surprised to hear about someone being hit by a car.
