Medical negligence cost Wolverhampton NHS Trust £10.8m in the last year, with 229 claims

Medical negligence has cost The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust over £10.8m in the last year, new findings have revealed.

The West Midlands organisation, which provides services for hospitals including New Cross, West Park and Cannock Chase, dealt with 229 medical negligence claims from July 2022 to July 2023.

This amounted to £10,871,599.14 in compensation, according to Freedom of Information requests submitted by LegalExpert.co.uk.

In comparison, the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust dealt with no medical negligence claims in this time period and did not pay out any compensation.

Walsall NHS Trust and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust have not yet revealed their medical negligence costs via Freedom of Information requests.
