Wolverhampton Racecourse owners unveil plans to build greyhound track
Wolverhampton Racecourse could soon be hosting greyhound racing and be a new "landmark venue" for the sport.
The latest development will be a further blow to Monmore Green Stadium which will no longer host speedway meetings after October.
Racecourse owners Arena Racing Company (Arc) have submitted a planning application to develop a new track to replace its Perry Barr venue which looks certain to close sparking more misery for West Midlands speedway fans.
Arc enlisted the help of the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI) on its planning application which includes a new state-of-the-art racing surface inside the current oval horseracing circuit at Wolverhampton. Dog kennels will also be moved to the racecourse, which already has a host of leisure facilities including a Holiday Inn hotel.
