Customers have contacted the Express and Star saying they have seen delays of up to three days on the delivery of parcels and important pieces of mail. One customer in the Wolverhampton area said residents in their road had not received a delivery for nearly a week, with some expecting important mail in that time.

Bosses at the main regional mail centre in Sun Street, Wolverhampton city centre say they are prioritising the delivery of mail which has been delayed due to staff absence or days off and continue to offer over time to contracted workers and agency staff.

Royal Mail saw a 30 per-cent increase in the number of parcels delivered during the Covid period, though the number of letters decreased.
