Uncertainty over opening date for delayed Wolverhampton Metro extension but final tests ongoing
Final tests are being carried out ahead of the opening of the Wolverhampton Metro extension – but an exact date is yet to be set.
The long-awaited £50 million Metro link from St George's down Piper's Row to Railway Plaza was meant to be completed in 2020 but has been beset by budget hikes and delays.
Bosses at Midland Metro Alliance say the final stages of testing and commissioning are being carried out, but called it a "complex process" which means a definitive date for its opening cannot yet be given.
A Midland Metro Alliance spokesperson said: “The Midland Metro Alliance is currently carrying out the final stages of testing and commissioning, which is a complex process that involves interface with multiple stakeholders, ahead of handing the line over to the operator for driver familiarisation.”
