Go-ahead for 12 new flats in town centre
A plan to build 12 new apartments with a ground floor shop unit on brownfield land in Bilston town centre has been given the go-ahead.
The development in the High Street will consist of a four-storey building with a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments on the top three floors and a retail unit below.
The site is located close to the town’s main shopping centre and market.
This is the latest in a line of projects aimed at providing more town centre living accommodation in Bilston, with a number of vacant former factory and office buildings already being redeveloped.
In a report to planners, the agent for the application Mr Ajay Kambo said: “The new building has been designed to blend in with others in the area. Most importantly, this should be viewed as an aspirational project for the High Street.
“The red brickwork matches the adjacent buildings, and to break up the elevation we have added olive grey signs and ornamental touches to the balconies and windows. The parapets and flat roof will match the height of other stores nearby, such as Lidl.
“As a former brownfield site, its development is fully supported. The scheme will create what is being described as “a visually attractive layout of distinctive character”.
“As well as being attractive, the building will blend in with the other existing properties in terms of both use and design. The proposed height and design reflects that of the other buildings in the area in terms of type, design and materials,” he added.
