Carvers, the largest single-site building materials supplier in the West Midlands, plans to open the unit on Neachells Lane Industrial Estate in Wednesfield.

The development, next to the firm’s timber production depot, will have a truck wash facility and a parking area for 34 HGV vehicles.

In a statement issued with the planning application, Andy Carter of Birmingham-based A.J. Carter Consulting, the agents acting on behalf of Carvers, said: “The site is at the heart of the existing Wednesfield employment area, bounded on the west, south and east sides by existing employment uses, and to the north by Wednesfield Way and Steelpark Way.

“The lay-over capacity for HGVs will be 34 spaces with an on-site turning circle to allow vehicles to enter the site, access the vehicle wash on the southern boundary, and either leave or lay-over until next required on the road network.

“Access to the site was formed during the construction of Wednesfield Way and Steelpark Way. The site benefits from its own arm off the roundabout from these two roads. A planned in/out arrangement with a splitter island on highway land was created when the employment land was afforded access.

“The site comprises undeveloped land with low-level vegetation covering. Semi-mature trees are on the boundary edge with Wednesfield Way/Steelpark Way and Architectural Aluminium Coatings Ltd.

“It is anticipated that the facility will support six on-site staff. On-site structures will be limited to an office/welfare cabin, vehicle wash equipment, lighting columns and the boundary treatments/access gates.

“The proposal is for the facility to be 24-hour, and lighting is required for security purposes.

“The applicants have put together a robust set of proposals that will re-use a vacant area of brownfield land in an existing employment area. Additionally, this will bring new employment opportunities to the area.”
