Golden couple looking forward to 50th anniversary celebrations
During five decades of marriage Christopher and Patricia Clinton have seen a lot.
But the coronavirus pandemic means their 50th year of marriage has been anything but bliss.
The couple from Wolverhampton had planned to get the family together for a meal followed by a holiday to mark their golden anniversary but, like pretty much everything else, those celebrations have been put on hold.
They have at least got each other. And it has been that way since they met at the Queen's Ballroom in Wolverhampton city centre in 1969.
Patricia said she was attracted to Christopher as soon as she saw him, admitting the fact he was wearing a suit probably helped.
"It just went from there, really," she added.
Two years later the couple were married at St Nicholas Church in Codsall. They went on to have three sons, Jonathan, Jason and Justin, and also have three grandchildren.
Christopher worked at Armitage Shanks for more than 40 years and still works as a valeter at a garage in Stafford. Patricia is now retired and spent most of her working life in lock manufacturing.
She admitted it had been "disappointing" to have to delay the anniversary celebrations but said was looking forward to getting together with family later this year.
She said: "We were going to go for a meal and were going to go on holiday. When we can we will have the meal and probably go to Lake Garda in Italy.
"It's disappointing to be honest but there's nothing you can do."
Patricia said her marriage to Christopher had been a "great one" and asked the secret to a long and happy marriage, she replied: "Give and take."
