Beryl Hamilton, who was born on February 15, 1921, and raised in Coseley, said her top tips for a happy life were “being happy and content with what you have”.

She attended Bilston Girls High School and later worked in a drawing office helping plan and design construction projects.

Beryl met her late-husband, Eric, at Tipton swimming baths and they married when she was 20-years-old.

They went on to have two children, a granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

Throughout her life Beryl’s hobbies have included being part of Townswomen’s Guild, which is now the second largest British women’s organisation, as well as joining the West Midlands Federation.

Beryl was also on the bench of West Bromwich Magistrates and moved to Sunrise of Tettenhall care home two years ago.

She said: “The secret for a long and happy life is always help others, don’t worry about what people say about you and be happy and content with what you have.

“I don’t feel 100 at all so I don’t know what all this fuss is about but I was very happy to receive my telegram from the Queen.”

Jazz Lalli, director of community relations at the care home, said: “It was a pleasure to be a part of Beryl’s 100th birthday celebrations.

“All the team at Sunrise of Tettenhall made sure she felt very special and she had balloons, lots of cards and a very big cake to mark the occasion. Beryl is a fabulous woman and she inspires us all.”
