Players and club members from St. Mary’s Gaelic Football club in Wolverhampton have been taking to the streets and parks across the city as part of a collective 1,000-mile fundraising challenge.

Using Strava devices, the runners will be putting in the miles each day through January, with an aim of raising £500 for Compton Care.

Club chairman Gerry Bradley is one of the participants in the challenge and the 44-year-old said it was part of the community focus by the club.

He said: “With Gaelic Athletic Association clubs back in Ireland, they’re very community and parish-orientated, working in association with churches to serve people in the community, so we’ve carried that on over here.”

Mr Bradley said they donated £100 to Compton Care and decided to do more as members had links with the charity.
