Councillor Zee Russell and Councillor Sandra Samuels visit meet with Parkfield Primary School's head of school Tracey Robinson.

Wolverhampton Councillor Zee Russell came up with the project which saw her ask schools to pen letters to those in care homes in Ettingshall this Christmas.

She thought up with the idea after speaking to her mother who expressed her joy at receiving a hand-written letter – rather than sending a digital message.

Now she has got three schools – Parkfield Primary School, Grove Primary School and SS Mary and John’s Catholic Primary Academy – involved.

Councillor Russell, who represents Ettingshall, said: “I have trouble sleeping and thought to myself ‘why not have the primary schools write to care home residents in the Ettingshall ward?’

“Some care home residents in particular have got nothing for Christmas day, so they’ll be able to open this on Christmas morning – and the messages are really lovely.

“There’s some asking them to be their friends and it’s really lovely to see. And I’m really blown away by it all – it’s just been amazing to see people giving rather than taking.”
