Vets Now, which has more than 60 outlets across the country, has applied to the council for planning permission to take over a large vacant warehouse unit in Well Lane, Wednesfield.

Situated on the Neachells Lane industrial estate, the premises was previously home to Air Space trampoline park.

The site is easily accessible by road from the main A4124 Wednesfield Way route linking the town with Willenhall and Darlaston.

A design and access statement, submitted alongside the plans, says: “Vets Now is looking to provide a new hospital in the West Midlands and has considered a number of possible sites throughout the region.

“The nature of the hospital requires that it is both easily accessible and visible. The Well Lane site provides both of these features.

“Vets Now currently has over 58 clinics and two pet emergency hospitals in Manchester and Glasgow, providing dedicated out-of-hours emergency and critical care for pets, and lending support to more than 1,000 local veterinary practices.

“The emergency side necessarily operates 24 hours a day.

“However, short notice appointments are made via out-of-hours phone lines, allowing staff to be expecting and prepared for any emergencies, ensuring animals are moved quickly and quietly into the building.

“This should not cause any more disturbance to the nearby houses on Neachells Lane than normal residential comings and goings.

“Only up to four emergency appointments would be expected between 11pm and 7am,” added the statement.

Waiting areas and consulting rooms at the new hospital will be accessible to pet owners immediately on entering the building.

Treatment and operating areas will be kept separate and accessed via staff only doors.

Wolverhampton Council planners will discuss the application in the near future.
