1,000 jobs hope as Government office could open in Wolverhampton
A Government office could be set up in Wolverhampton - creating up to 1,000 jobs - under proposals being considered by ministers, it has been revealed.
Stuart Anderson said he had received "positive feedback" over his request.
The proposals, if backed, would see the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), set up a local office in Wolverhampton.
It is hoped the move, discussed with Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick MP, would help the city recover from the impact of coronavirus.
Mr Anderson, the MP for Wolverhampton South West, said: "I was elected on a manifesto to level up opportunities and unleash potential.
"Too many areas in Wolverhampton have been left behind for decades, and I have been working hard to attract more investment for our great city.
'Massive boost'
I am delighted that the Government is looking at setting up a base for one of its most influential departments in our great city.
"This is a step in the right direction and, if approved, it could see up to a thousand jobs created for local people and it would be a massive boost to the area as we look to recover from coronavirus.
"I will continue to engage with Government ministers on these plans."
Mr Anderson said he had been in conversation with the Government and the Housing Secretary for "many months" to help bring investment into the city.
The MHCLG is responsible for driving up housing supply and home ownership, devolving powers and budgets to boost local growth, and supporting communities with excellent public services.
It comes after the city received £14.9 million for the National Brownfield Institute and could be in line for a slice of funding from the £3.6 billion Towns Fund.
