Compton Care urges people to donate £1 through annual fundraiser
A hospice in the Black Country has urged people to donate £1 each to ensure it can continue to provide care to those in need.
Compton Care, based in Wolverhampton, made the plea as it launched its annual "Quid for Compton" appeal amid the pandemic.
It comes after the hospice, along with other charities, saw a substantial drop in income as fundraisers were cancelled due to Covid-19.
Sally Woods, community fundraiser said: "This year’s campaign could not be easier for you to take part in. We are simply asking our supporters to donate £1.
"That’s it! No events, no sponsored silences, no bakes sales, just donate £1 or a sum of your choice and help Compton to continue to provide care and support to people living with incurable conditions and their families, as well as bereaved adults and children.
More Covid-19 coverage:
"Like many charities, we have seen a significant drop in our income due to Covid-19, however our incredible teams stepped up and extended our services to support our NHS colleagues and will continue to do so, if needed.
"We are now asking our community to join our local shops and restaurants in supporting Quid for Compton week from to 'Give a little. Help a lot'."
The fundraiser, which runs until Sunday, has raised around £26,727 since it launched in December 2017 – enough to fund the equivalent of 108 visits from a Compton Nurse Specialist.
And £1 on its own could provide a 30-minute telephone befriending call to people experiencing isolation and loneliness – with the donation "really" making a difference.
A supporter, who wished to stay anonymous, said: "Without Compton I don’t know how we would have got though this pandemic.
"They have offered me the hand of friendship and support throughout this pandemic. I will never ever forget what they have done for me."
People wishing to donate can do so by texting Q4C and their desired amount to 70085. Visit comptoncare.org.uk for more information.
