Ranjit Singh, head coach of Wolverhampton Wrestling Club, has become the seventh member of the Lionhearts squad, an initiative which pays homage to 23 individuals who have gone above and beyond for their communities.
The 44-year-old was selected by the panel following his work at the Guru Nanak Satsang Gurdwara, where he helped serve food daily to about 300 members of the local community, including vulnerable and homeless people.
Ranjit also had 1,500 PPE equipment pieces manufactured and distributed to day care centres across the country as well as making bespoke equipment for those on the front line who might require amendments.
He will join the likes of Captain Sir Tom Moore, film-maker Hassan Akkad and community leader Daniel Sukula in the squad.
He said: “I got a little message from the guys at the Birmingham FA who we’ve been working with and it’s just been hard to keep it quiet since then.”
Ranjit was announced as a member of the squad and presented with his shirt at St George’s Park in Burton ahead of England’s Nations League games against Iceland and Denmark.
