Plea to help pay for vet bills for abandoned cat Mavis

Kats Cradle has launched an appeal for help after it took on the care of Mavis, a two-year-old cat who is believed to have been abandoned by her owner.

Debbie Brookes, from Kats Cradle, said she had been alerted to Mavis's predicament through an emergency call from a worried member of the public.

"I was told about a young female cat who was being fed daily by a kindly couple and who they had found collapsed in their garden, lying in the rain and very sick," she said.

"I raced over and, on arrival, found her to be off her legs, very dehydrated, severely anaemic and with a small, infected wound on her toe, so I took her straight to St George's Vets in Wolverhampton."

Mavis was admitted for emergency fluids, bloods and a body scan to check for internal bleeding, before undergoing surgery to remove her infected womb after issues relating to sepsis and pyometra.

Kindness

Debbie has kept a blog of Mavis's progress on the Kats Cradle Facebook page, detailing the recovery process that Mavis has been going through, including Mavis being able to stand up and wash herself.

She also launched the appeal to ask for help paying Mavis's vet bills after the combination of checks and surgeries took the bill up to £5,000.

Debbie said: "She’s much brighter and appears to have turned a corner.

"She’s still not out of the woods yet, but she’s stood up by herself and had a wee and washed herself.

"We have raised £2,500 so far, so please continue to help us fight for Mavis as your kindness is overwhelming."
