The Shree Krishan Mandir Hindu temple on Penn Road in Wolverhampton has made a donation of £10,000 to the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Worshippers and members of the temple made a cheque presentation to the trust, with the funds raised coming from a collection held during the coronavirus pandemic.

Satyapal Sharma, general secretary of the temple and a worshipper there for 35 years, said the temple wanted to do all it could to help local hospitals and the community during the pandemic.

He said: "Unfortunately, because of the coronavirus and social distancing, we haven’t been able to reach as many people as we would have liked, but we hope this gesture can go towards helping as many staff as possible.

"We started a fundraising campaign as responsible and committed citizens of this country to help the NHS to fight against COVID-19.

"In this campaign, the Hindu community along with other communities have come forward wholeheartedly with the contributions.

"We deeply appreciate our NHS for the excellent, commendable and noble work they are doing.”

Joining Satyapal Sharma in handing over the donation were fellow Shree Krishan Mandir Board members Satish Sabherwal, vice-president, Prem Nath Puri and treasurer and assistant secretary Bhupinder Sharda.

Sue Rawlings, chair of the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity, and non-executive director of The Trust, praised the temple members and thanked them for their kind donation.

She said: "We are delighted and extremely grateful for the support and kind donation that has been made by the temple. It will benefit all staff."
