Wolverhampton murder suspect still in custody after 'torso found in suitcase'

A Wolverhampton man remains in custody today after he was arrested on suspicion murder after suspected human remains were found in the Forest of Dean.

Gloucestershire Police have been given an extra time to quiz the man, in his 30s, and a woman in her 20s, from Birmingham, after the discovery on Tuesday night.

Police made the discovery shortly after 11.30pm on Tuesday night. It has been reported that a human torso was found in a suitcase, but Gloucestershire Police is yet to comment on the nature of the remains.

Forensic tests are on-going to establish the identity of the victim. A post-mortem is also taking place.

The man and woman had both been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A spokesman from Gloucestershire Police said: "Officers have been granted a 36-hour magistrates' extension to continue questioning two people who were arrested on suspicion of murder.

"Overnight a 12-hour custody extension had been granted for both the woman aged in her 20s and from Birmingham and the man aged in his 30s and from Wolverhampton.

"The further 36-hour extension was granted at around midday today and means they can remain in custody for further questioning."

The spokesman added: "Due to the ongoing investigation road closures and scene guards are likely to remain in place for at least the rest of today.

"We would like to thank local residents and those impacted by the cordons for their patience during this time."
