Man rescued from canal in Wolverhampton
A man has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after he was pulled from the waters of a canal.
Firefighters rescued the man from the canal, off Lanesfield Drive, Lanesfield, Wolverhampton, shortly after 9am today.
Crews from Bilston fire station treated him with oxygen therapy, before paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service took over.
He was taken to the city's New Cross Hospital in a serious condition, a spokesman for the service confirmed.
The Midlands Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:
"On arrival, fire colleagues had removed the patient from the water.
"We treated him on scene before taking him on blue lights to New Cross Hospital in a serious condition.”
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman added: "We received a call at 9:02am on Thursday to Lanesfield Drive. We sent one fire engine to the scene from Bilston fire station, with a crew of five firefighters.
"The ambulance service were also in attendance.
"The firefighters were able to pull the man from the canal and gave him oxygen therapy before the ambulance service took over care."
