Brooke, 12, shaves off hair for Wolverhampton food bank
A selfless 12-year-old has had her hair shaved off in a bid to raise funds for a Wolverhampton-based food bank.
Brooke Gamble, who lives in Wolverhampton, had all 14 inches of her hair shaved off in aid of the Well on Saturday.
Brooke, a pupil at St Peter's Collegiate Church of England School, set herself a goal of raising £2,000 – and has already raised more than £2,300.
The money will go towards buying food and toiletries for vulnerable people in the city, supported by the Well.
She said: "I did not really like my hair and wanted to raise some money for charity – I wanted the opportunity to do something good for the Well. My former primary school, St Michael's, worked a bit with the Well – and I have seen what the charity does and the helped make food packages for people.
"It is only a small charity and because of the current situation, they are really busy."
Brooke said: "My parents said my new hair looks really nice and I think it suits me. I am really glad I did it – and it was for a really good cause."
Proud mother Josie added: "I am immensely proud of Brooke. She is very determined, has a heart of gold and always wants to do things for other people.
"She asked, and asked, and asked to do it, she initiated the whole thing herself. We thought it is lockdown, there's not better time for her to do it really.
"We had Gary and Caroline Price, who run the Well, on Zoom watching the whole thing."
