Wolverhampton man creates colourful mural to thank the NHS for saving his wife's life
A man from Wolverhampton has created a mural to thank NHS staff after they saved his wife's life.
Brian Lunt, 78, from Wednesfield, has created the fitting tribute for workers at New Cross Hospital who looked after his wife, Susan, 72, when she was critically ill three years ago.
He said: "It started off with shortness of breath, then it turned into pneumonia, sepsis and a lot of other conditions, she was very poorly.
"She was in New Cross Hospital for nine days in total and was sedated for five of them.
"The doctors and nurses were amazing they did everything they could for her. There was even a virus on the ward and they never stopped.
"I stayed with her day and night. One day she started to come round and had no memory of what had happened.
"I am positive that the staff at New Cross saved her life."
Covid-19 coverage:
To thank the staff for their efforts, Brian, a former builder, has created a colourful piece of artwork which he has displayed outside his home.
He added: "I know some people send chocolates and flowers, but I never thought that was enough.
"I saw that other people had been drawing and painting to thank the NHS due to coronavirus and it gave me an idea.
"Being a builder I'd collected lots of bits over the years. At first, I thought I'll paint a rainbow and then I just kept adding more bits to it.
"It took me about three weeks in total to paint it, luckily the sun was shining and I loved it.
"I wish that I could do more and give the NHS more. I just want to thank them for all that they have done for me and my wife."
