Council chiefs have praised everyone in the city for coming together – but stressed more equipment was needed for front line workers.

It comes after Wolverhampton Council launched an urgent appeal for protective gear to help social care staff.

Councillor Ian Brookfield, leader of Wolverhampton Council, said: "It’s been widely reported that PPE is in really short supply nationally, and we’re so grateful to all the businesses and individuals who have responded to our urgent appeal for equipment.

"We’re working as quickly as we can to get the equipment out to our frontline social workers so that they can continue to support people in their homes, care homes and children's units safely.

"We’ve had a tremendous response so far, but we still need more.

"So if you or your organisation has any equipment to spare, please get in touch with us as soon as you possibly can – and in doing so you will be playing an instrumental role in the fight against coronavirus."

The council is keen to receive fluid repellent disposable gowns (BS EN 13795:2019 and BS EN11810:2015); non latex gloves (small, medium, large and extra large, EN 455 Parts 1,2,3 and 4 Break Force 6 Newtons); FFP3 face masks (EN149:2001+A1:2009 - FFP3) and 500ml of hand sanitiser (70 per cent alcohol, propran-1-ol or propran-2-ol content, gel preferred to liquid).

Products must be within their use-by date and must adhere to the current technical and regulatory standards for PPE.

People should provide information around the certification of items if possible.

Businesses wishing to donate items can email covid19procurement@wolverhampton.gov.uk with full details of any equipment which may be available.
