The Bell pub and restaurant in Trysull

The Bell in Wombourne Road, Trysull, had been shut since February 17 while owners Woodsetton-based Holden's Brewery carried out the work to breathe new life into the building which dates back around 200 years.

The brewery has announced on Facebook: "We regret to inform you that The Bell will remain closed until further notice.

"Many of you will be aware that we recently closed for essential repairs to breathe new life into our fabulous pub.

"Unfortunately, as part of the refurbishment work, this week our team uncovered unexpected structural problems with the roof.

"After an assessment from a structural engineer, the building has been rendered out of bounds on safety grounds until the repairs have been fully completed."

Holden's has had to cancel all bookings for the foreseeable future.

"We can’t tell you how sorry we are for the inconvenience this might cause, but it’s a problem that is out of our control. We have big plans for The Bell and can't wait to show it off but safety must come first.

"We’ve already attempted to contact all customers who had made reservations with us for the coming weeks. If you’ve made a reservation and haven’t yet heard from one of the team, please send us a private message or give us a call 01902 880051 to discuss your booking as soon as possible.

"We’d like to sincerely apologise once again for the impact this may have," the brewery said in its message.
