Wolverhampton city centre building earmarked for 100 flats
A plan to transform a Wolverhampton city centre building into more than 100 flats is back on the table.
Prior approval was previously given for Crown House in Birch Street in 2018, and now the plans have once again been given the same approval.
An application has been lodged with the city council by the same contractor, Mapeley STEPS Contractor Ltd, and is for 102 flats.
HMRC was still using the building in 2018, and it revealed in 2015 that tax workers were to move out of the building after HMRC announced it was shifting all staff to a base in Birmingham, leaving the large office block empty.
Crown House was one of four tax offices HMRC said would close in the Black Country.
Detailed plans have yet to be submitted but a request for change of use has been approved by council planners.
HMRC revealed the offices were to close as part of plans to shave £100 million from its budget.
Bridge House in Brierley Hill and Pattison House in Walsall were also earmarked for the axe.
