Wolverhampton firefighter took his own life, inquest hears
A firefighter found hanged at Wolverhampton Fire Station took his own life after suffering from depression, an inquest heard.
Andrew Moore, aged 50, was found at the Merridale Street station where he had been on night shift duty with colleagues on January 16.
The inquest heard that Mr Moore, of Robin Close in Huntington, near Cannock, was pronounced dead at New Cross Hospital. The cause of death was given as hanging.
Senior Black Country Coroner Mr Zafar Siddique told the hearing held at Oldbury Library: "He had been suffering from depression and left a note indicating his intention to take his own life."
Mr Siddique recorded a conclusion of suicide.
Having joined North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service in September 1993, Andrew transferred to West Midlands Fire Service in May 1996.
Speaking after Mr Moore's death, West Midlands Chief fire officer Phil Loach said: “Andrew’s death has come as a great shock to the entire service.
"Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues.
“One of our senior officers informed Andrew’s family of his death.
"We will continue to provide them with all the support they need at this very difficult time.”
