The Bob Jones Community Hub in Blakenhall hosted the lunch which took place in the Paradise Cafe.

The Good Shepherd assisted with bringing people into the cafe, putting on transport to ensure service users could make it.

People there were treated to a full Christmas Lunch with a Caribbean twist, being served turkey and all the trimmings, followed by breadfruit for dessert.

The meal was a collaborative effort between Marcia Reid, the owner of Paradise Cafe, and Blakenhall Councillor Jasbinder Dehar, as part of her Hear the Homeless campaign

Councillor Dehar started Hear the Homeless five years ago with a concert which raised funds for the Good Shepherd and chose to deliver the campaign to Blakenhall when she became a councillor.

She said: "We mustn't forget the homeless because homelessness can happen to anyone.

"There could be two people working and when one person loses their job, that could be what loses them their home, so it's so important, as a society, to help our homeless population.

"We will continue to deliver this every year, with help from local places of worship and businesses in Blakenhall."

The event saw volunteers from all over the community come to help with serving food and other duties.

Donald Weeks is an American Pastor who runs a Bible study group at the community hub and said he was inspired to help after meeting Councillor Dehar.

He said: "We've spoken to Jas and various councillors in this area and we've spoken about how we care for those that have been abused.

"I would like people to not only have a good meal today, but also feel that there are people who care about them and know that they are valued as human beings."
