Roof destroyed in Wolverhampton house fire
The roof of a house was destroyed in one of two house fires in 10 hours in Wolverhampton.
Firefighters were sent to the blaze in Leslie Road, just off Cannock Road in Park Village, just before 6am today and were still at the scene more than six hours later.
Five crews from across Walsall and Wolverhampton were sent and used a hydraulic platform to access the roof of the terraced house, which was wrecked by the flames.
Nobody is understood to have been injured and the house was empty when the fire broke out.
A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We were called to a severe fire in the roof space around 6am.
“We’re not sure of the cause yet. Nobody was injured, and nobody was in the property at the time.
“We sent four fire engines and one hydraulic platform.
“The fire affected two properties.”
Fire crews left at about 1.30pm.
Meanwhile last night at 8.17pm crews were called to a house fire in Goldthorn Crescent, Penn.
The blaze was confined to a front upstairs bedroom and an elderly man and a woman received precautionary checks.
Crews used four breathing apparatus and two hose-reel jets to extinguish the fire and the stop message was received at 10.15pm.
