A man was seriously injured after being hit by a train in Wolverhampton.

The railway station was temporarily closed yesterday after the man was struck just before 1pm.

Trains were cancelled and delayed as emergency services dealt with the incident and the station was shut down for around 30 minutes.

The circumstances around how the man came to be hit by the train are not yet known. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a serious condition.

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 12.57pm to Wolverhampton Railway Station to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and train.

"We sent our HART team, a critical care car, two paramedic officers and two ambulances.

"Crews treated one patient, a man.

"He received trauma care on scene for serious injuries before being taken to the QE in Birmingham for further emergency care.”

Catrin Hallett, spokeswoman for British Transport Police, said: “We were called at 1pm yesterday to Wolverhampton station after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and a man is being treated for injuries.”
