£5,500 handed to Compton Care from Council of Sikh Gurdwaras in Wolverhampton
A cheque for £5,500 was handed to Compton Care by the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras in Wolverhampton.
The funds were raised this year to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of prophet Guru Nanak Dev.
Despite the rain, hundreds of people turned out to take part in a charity walk at West Park on Sunday ahead of the cheque presentation to the charity.
Dr Sadhu Singh, the chairman of the council, said: "We are celebrating the 550th year of our first prophet Guru Nanak Dev, so we decided to elect a local charity to help and we chose Compton Care.
"We managed to raise £5,500 throughout the year and presented it to Compton Care after the walk.
"All the community got together to walk with matching T-shirts on, some people did one lap, some did more.
"We were expecting more people but it was raining and cold but it was ok.
"MP Pat McFadden came too and representatives from Compton Care."
It costs Compton Care about £10 million every year to officer care and support to patients and their families living with the effects of complex and incurable illnesses.
The services are offered free of charge but the charity needs to raise about £6.9 million a year to continue to do so.
