Paul Harrington, from Cheslyn Hay, 'bagged a brace' with two National Lottery Scratchcard wins in September – including claiming the £300,000 top prize.

And just a week earlier, 43-year-old Paul had won £1,000 on the same National Lottery Cashword VIP Scratchcard – black and gold in colour like his favourite football team, having been a season ticket holder for the last five years.

On Thursday he celebrated his big win pitchside at the Molineux with girlfriend Julie Hulett, also 43, and Wolves legend Steve Bull.

Paul, who is a bricklayer, picked up the first scratchcard at the Spar at Quinton Court Shopping Centre, in Great Wyrley, when he was half an hour early for a doctor's appointment.

He said: "Back at the beginning of September I had a doctor's appointment and bought a scratchcard before I went into the surgery. I went to the shop to get a Euro Millions ticket, so picked up a scratchcard too.

"I scratched the card while in the doctor's waiting room and when I realised I had won a grand – I suddenly felt a lot better!"

Paul has been a season ticket holder at Molineux for five years

He bought the second scratchcard on September 20, from Tesco Express in Walsall Road, Great Wyrley, before heading to work at Andy Flynn Brickworks, based in Cannock.

Paul said: "I bought a paper on the way to work and also bought another National Lottery Scratchcard. My colleague and I left the office at around 7.30am and drove to Coventry where we were working at the time.

"We stopped at a service station to get some fuel and I scratched the card. I wasn't sure but I initially thought I had won another £1,000.

"We then went to the Travis Perkins near the site to collect some materials and I checked the scratchard again – and realised I had won big. I immediately told my boss then called the National Lottery."

After the win the couple put the winning scratchcard in the safe and visited their caravan in North Wales

Paul is planning to invest in property with his winnings – and also go back to New York later this year for some Christmas shopping.

He said: "It's great, it was a bit overwhelming to start with. I still go and get my paper every morning and pick up two scratchcards.

"Everybody started chatting to me and messaging me. It was great. After the call to the National Lottery I went home early.

"With the scratchcard in the safe, my girlfriend Julie and I decided to take a trip to our caravan in Abergele, in North Wales.

"It was a bit strange driving up and staying there, like we had done so many times before, but this time knowing you have just won £300,000, but I can definitely recommend it.

"Meeting Bully was great, he's one of my heroes. It made our day."

Girlfriend Julie said: "I am so pleased for him – it's amazing. It could not have happened to a better person, he's such a good person."

Steve Bull added: "I am here to celebrate someone who has won something – you have got to have a bit of luck in this world! I think it is absolutely brilliant for Paul.

"If you don't buy a ticket, you aren't going to win. It's a bit like football, if you don't shoot you aren't going to score a goal.

"For Paul, winning a second time – it is like lightning has struck twice! It is unbelievable, it is going to change his life for a long time and he's got the National Lottery to thank for that."
