Amelia Nutting, aged 29, said it was the "icing on the cake" to win Celebration Cake Maker Of The Year - after being a finalist four times.

Amelia works at the cake shop, called Shuga Budz - which is based on Bridgnorth Road, Wolverhampton - alongside her mother Debbie, 59, and four other staff members.

Judges praised the cake entry for being "action-packed and exciting".

Amelia said: "We are very proud of the award. It has been a long time coming.

"We have been in the final four times in the past five years, so you could say this was the icing on the cake."

The cake was made up of a black cylindrical base, with small figures of aliens and a large green and orange plant stuck to the sides.

The black base represented black holes and gold and silver icing was used to create smaller planets.

Shuga Budz was presented with their award at a prestigious ceremony in London, as part of the Baking Industry Awards 2019.

A judge said Amelia had captured the cosmic theme with her entry.

She said: "The judge noted that the cake 'was action packed' which 'showcased her talents as a cake-maker brilliantly'."

She added: "We was over-the-moon to win the award."

Shuga Budz make bespoke cakes for all occasions.

Some of their creations include Wolves-themed delicacies in tribute to local football club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The staff are able to create colourful and appealing shapes for icing and bases.

The business has been based at the Bridgnorth Road for the past six years, having formerly operated from a shop in Tettenhall.
