Youngsters release balloons in memory of Pawanveer and Sanjay Singh

Pawanveer Singh, aged 23 months, and his 10-year-old brother Sanjay both died in the crash on March 14.

They were travelling in a BMW with their mother when it was hit by an Audi S3 as they turned off the Birmingham New Road into Lawnswood Avenue, Wolverhampton.

Six months on since their tragic deaths, family, friends and residents re-visited the scene of the crash yesterday to remember the young boys on what would have been Sanjay’s 11th birthday.

Dozens of people gathered at the roadside for the memorial, carrying blue balloons – while some wore t-shirts which read “RIP Sanj and Pav.”

Staff and pupils at Crowell End Primary School, where Sanjay was a student, also joined family, friends to remember the boys.

A banner was tied to the fence showing pictures of the pair with a message that read: “Our little soldiers gone too soon. Wishing you peace, comfort and courage to face the days ahead and loving memories of us to hold close to your hearts.”

Balloons were tied to the fence, while the rest, carrying messages from school friends, were released into the air alongside the cheer of “happy birthday”.

Many of those in attendance shed a tear as the the balloons were released.

'Six months on it's still raw'

Nikki Nahar, aged 47, from Wolverhampton, a cousin of the boy’s mother, said he had had a close bond with the brothers. “It’s rewarding to be able to be here and celebrate his birthday, but it’s more amazing to see the turnout.

“I’m hoping that this will be a yearly thing,” she said.

“It’s overwhelming and you learn that there is humanity out there, there’s good people that unite at times like this.

“The boys just attracted love and joy everywhere, you can see how much there were loved, there’s so many tears here.

"It’s been six months but it’s still as raw as day one and it’ll always be remembered.

“My hat goes off to the mum and dad, they’ve done a lot to include everyone, they could have sat away and not wanted anything to do with anyone, but they want to share the loss because they know it’s felt by people. They’re remembered every single day and that doesn’t get any less, it won’t fade.”

The collision sent shockwaves through the community as hundreds of people gathered to mourn the boys at the end of March.

Around 300 people lined the streets at the scene of the crash to remember the boys, from the Dudley area, before their funeral at Gornal Wood Cemetery.

Classmates and staff at Cotwall End Primary School in Sedgley, where Sanjay was a student, were left heartbroken. More than £10,000 was raised to help the family pay for funeral costs.

No-one has been charged in connection with the crash, despite police making a number of arrests since the incident.

Anyone with information can call police 101.
