Complaints over untidy land behind shops
Land at the rear of a row of shops on a Wolverhampton housing estate has attracted a number of complaints from nearby residents about rubbish being dumped and the general untidy state of the area.
Known locally as the ‘Top Shops’, the premises located on Higgs Road and Griffiths Drive in Ashmore Park, Wednesfield, are well-used by people living on the estate and surrounded on both sides by houses.
Concerned the area was becoming too much of an eyesore, residents contacted Councillor Phil Bateman to call for action.
“There has been a lot of local criticism about the untidy state of the area lately and people have been concerned,” said Councillor Bateman.
“Following complaints from local residents and regular shoppers, I asked the Wolverhampton Homes team that operate the lease and contracts at these important shops to visit and inspect the area at the rear of the premises.
“I would like to inform local residents that an inspection has now taken place and the shopkeepers will be reminded of their responsibilities.
“Unfortunately, instances of fly-tipping and rubbish being left behind shops is an ongoing issue but we are on top of the matter. Hopefully some order will be quickly returned and the space cleaned and tidied,” he added.
A spokesman for Wolverhampton Homes said the matter was being dealt with.
