Bosses of a Wolverhampton nightclub could have their licence revoked when they find themselves before licensing chiefs for the second time in just four months.

A hearing will be held on Monday where the future of Society, in Townwell Fold, is set to be decided.

The review was called by West Midlands Police following what they described as a “serious incident” at the club at 8.19am on Sunday, July 7, which saw a man suffer a cut to his hand.

Officers raised concerns about CCTV footage being removed from the premises after they requested it and the club operating and selling alcohol after licensing hours. This resulted in the licence being suspended pending the hearing.

But, following this incident, representatives for the club – run by brothers Mac and Rakesh Kainth – said the incident was an unauthorised party not permitted by the management and denied any fighting or disorder had taken place.

They added that a member of staff who had allowed people in after hours had been dismissed by the management.

In the application, West Midlands Police said: “It can only be confirmed that a serious disorder has occurred inside the venue, however it cannot be established if serious crime has occurred due to the fact that there was no account given by the injured male.

“He also refused to co-operate with the police, likely due to his intoxication and the fact that he had been drinking inside a licensed venue after hours.

“There is also the fact that there is no CCTV available from inside the venue to confirm exactly what went on.”

The police’s application has been supported by Wolverhampton Council’s licensing team.

Should the licensing committee find against the club, they could order the revocation of the licence or the removal of the management.

Back in April, a series of stringent conditions were placed on Society by licensing committee following a stabbing at the venue in the early hours of March 24.
