Historic Wolverhampton building to be brought back to life
An historic Wolverhampton building will be transformed into shops, a restaurant and 14 apartments.
Plans have been approved for 5-15 Broad Street to be extended at the back, and the upper floors turned into apartments, while the ground floor will become three shops and a restaurant.
The plans say: "The use proposed is for self-contained flats, shops and restaurant and not for houses of multiple occupation. This would have a downward effect on the neighbourhood.
"The conversion and occupation of this historic building would have the opposite effect, including the provision of a restaurant for consumption on the premises and not a takeaway as there is already a proliferation in the road.
"With this building being a heritage asset and in a conservation area all materials facing Broad Street and Thornley Road will be constructed with traditional materials to include timber sash windows to be repaired where possible and new ones to match and secondary glazing."
Under the plans there will be two bedsits, four two-bed flats and eight one-bed flats.
