Around 25 daring volunteers walked across coals reaching 648 degrees Celsius at the Round Oak pub in Wombourne, in aid of Wolverhampton-based charity Compton Care.

The charity is still collecting sponsorship from the event and those that took part, but they are expected to have raised more than £5,000 to go towards their work to help people living with complex or incurable diseases.

Compton Care event fundraiser and organiser of the hot coals event, Sarah Wooding, was on hand to join her volunteers in taking to the scorching coals.

She said: “The event was really good fun, everyone who came along said they enjoyed themselves and were surprised that they were able to complete the challenge of walking across hot coals.

“I myself took on the challenge to help raise funds for people living with complex and incurable illnesses and enjoyed it so much I did it twice.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part as well as those who came along to support the event.

"You are all extraordinary”

The event was organised by UK Fire Walk and all participants received an hour’s safety training and tips from the company’s founder Scott Bell, who is twice the Guinness World Record holder for the ‘Greatest Fire Walking Distance’ by walking 328 feet across burning coals.

Next up for Compton Care's fundraising events is the Banks's Round the Wrekin event which will see hundreds of riders take on a number of rides throughout the Black Country and Shropshire.

It's supported by cycling legend Hugh Porter and takes place on May 19 from Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club.
