Arun Photay says he has quit as the Conservative councillor for Tettenhall Wightwick because he is no longer based in Wolverhampton.

As his seat was not due to go up for election until 2020, his resignation means there will be elections for two seats in the ward in May, the other one being Councillor Wendy Thompson. A total of 21 seats will be up for grabs across the city.

Mr Photay, 35, said: "It has been a really tough decision, but as I work in London I am no longer able to dedicate the time required in the ward."

Mr Photay was fist elected to Wolverhampton Council in 2012. He was vice chairman of the city's scrutiny board and also sat on the vibrant and sustainable city scrutiny panel.

He has missed 52 per cent of the council meetings he was scheduled to attend over the last 14 months.
